Michael Jackson and the cult of personality

Looking back over just the past few months, we have seen the deaths of many Hollywood
stars. And if you have followed that most individual of cults, stardom, you will notice that many a young man and woman lost their lives because of fame.

Like the moth to the flame, people are attracted to Stardom. And there are many
enablers along the way. Mostly what you see is the affect that stardom has on a person physically, mentally and especially spiritually.

Michael Jackson can be compared to James Dean, or Elvis Presley, or John Belushi, or John Lennon, Heath Ledger, Jim Morrison, Janice Joplin, River Phoenix, Selina or Curt Kobain, Sid Vicious, many young men who could not deal with the after affects of fame. Fame is built around entertainment, an illusion in itself. Hollywood is surreal, and the people
addicted to the cult of personality flock there. And those who make it, become
completely deluded with reality. Reality after all sucks. So the faery tale life
needs a faery tale land, with an endless supply of faery tale dreams.

Sure this is the American dream, to reach your fruitiion in your time and in your
place, to be placed on the earth as the pure seed of potential, the spot light finds
you, you do your shtick, and they either love you or hate you. But you shine on
you crazy diamond.

Michael was a diamond in the ruff, raw unadulterated talent, and he managed to cut too much, too deep,
to the very core of his being. He not only wanted to circumcise his heart, he
circumcised his face, seeking his identity through the facade of stardom.

What happens after the limelight fades?? When the light of reality burns the eyes?
When you wake up to the everyday world of the real me?
most recede into a make believe world, and live a make believe life. Michael
Jackson could create Thriller, because he knew that what he himself, was, was a monster that had been created.

The cult of personality took off with the idea of fame in the first place. We
see that the first truly famous were men of sports. Baseball in particular.
Babe Ruth‘s fame was worldwide, he was more famous then the queen, and that was the point. That the star of any man could outshine even royalty.

And once the idea of fame was truly obtainable, many hundreds of thousands swarmed
to the cult of personality with a gusto. But people forgot about the old carrot
on the stick. Once you have depleted all of your senses, and satiated the physical
part of you, there is the mental part telling you it’s all an illusion. It’s not
sustainable.

That’s the hardest part, once you have reached a level of fame, for some the highest
level was achieved and yet they were still human. The cult of personality not only
ensures stardom but hints at immortality and this is what every star falsely assumes,
that they have reached immortality.

This is the part that is really hard to swallow. In this era of the fulfillment
of the potential of the individual, many men have sought immortality. Oh sure
you might seek immortality through Brahmanism, or Buddhism, or Sufism, or some
religion that teaches immortality through complete surrender or oblivion. The
cult of personality is a more physical endeavor, and this is why so many men
died when they had reached their fullest potential. They were not taught to temper
their physical fame, with a more spiritual high.

None of these dead stars ever ascended the flesh. None stood upon the mount of the
law or Moriah or Horeb, and ascended. They were little sparks of light that went
out quickly. So your ten minutes of fame, may be just that, ten minutes.

What we see in the persona of men like Elvis Presley and Michael Jackson is that
they seemed to reach higher than most. They reached for Orion, and tried to grab
the branch, but it eluded them. They had a true gift, the gift of being
original, creative genius that they projected to the world. Their fame lay in their performance only.
Their stage life, the make believe life these famous people fed the world. They
demanded the spirit take them higher, and when it did not they turned to psycho
tropic stimulants, to numb their reality, to keep them in a constant state of
non pain caused by the realization, that “THIS AIN’T IT!”

And then when the realization hit them, that something did not add up, they became
morose, self inflicting wounds quickly appeared upon them. You could see just
how detrimental fame had been on their physical bodies. Many a star has succumbed
to the physical abuse of drugs, and it seems the more famous they became the
more drugs they did.

Because there is a steep price to pay for fame. You are put under the microscope,
your every move studied, and judged. And when the judgment becomes too severe,
there is a wilting away. Michael, and Elvis, John Lennon, we feel they had so
much more to give. But they didn’t. They had fulfilled their end physically,
they received their share of the Fame pool, and then fate stepped in and took
them all. Because they don’t tell you that the price you pay for reaching
Fame is steep. Too steep, and many had fallen off the tip of the tower of
Fame to their respective deaths.

The double axe hangs right over the carrot of Fame, and many had taken too
large a bite, and could not sustain the chew before the axe had fallen.

And yet we see with many a young star that they believe they are invincible, nothing
can touch them….their spirits dry up….oh yes I believe that most people who
reach the limit of notoriety try to temper it with spirit, and some just fling that
spirit to the winds….and the name of god is YHVH, (terrible wind), and we see
that the destruction of the flesh comes with such abandon.

The apple of fame is a very tempting one, the American dream is based upon it.
We rely on it to tell our story to the world, “Look what matters to us is
our individuality….” the individual who strives to reach personal fame is
our motto. We live by it, and by god we die by it.

Unfortunately we see how even ministers of religion, and professed faith in god have
allowed the cult of personality to destroy them.

When the spirit is allowed to produce in all directions at once, it produces a true
seed of potential. They do not come around often, and when they do they need to
be nurtured, not enabled. They need spiritual guidance, not wizardry and wicca.
And many seek their religion from Kabbalah, the discerning intelligence.

Drugs play a very big role in the entertainment business. Those who reach fame
and fortune become addicted to alcohol or drugs, because fame itself is an
addition. The cult of personality is addictive, just as life and a dog returning
to it’s own vomit is addictive. The breath of life is addictive. All is
dangled before us, a tasty morsel a must have in our individual arsenal, but where
there are roses there are also thorns, and when not navigated properly, the
boat will hit the rocks and fall apart.

Many do not care about the consequences, they go head first without fear into
the realms of fame, not knowing that there is a very steep price to pay, some
make it by laying low between appearances, and others reach the highest heights
willing to sacrifice all….seeking oblivion and sweet surrender.

With his death, the world lost a true seed of potential. Michael was proof that any man
can reach his fruition in his time and in his place. I know people will be listening to his music,
and imitating his moves and style for years to come. Now the world watches, waits, and hopes
that a true creative original comes forth, because what would we be without the culture of
personality?? Let’s hope this is not an end to true talent and potential… ..

Rest in peace Michael, the world might never know of one more beautiful than you.Related articles by Zemanta
